Support and information from NCT
NCT offers reliable support and information about the various stages of pregnancy, week by week.
Your developing baby
Congratulations, you’ve reached the halfway mark! Your baby is about 25cm long and small teeth are beginning to form.
Their sex is now visible on the scan so, if you choose to, you can find out if you are having a boy or a girl.
Leg cramps during pregnancy
Many women suffer from leg cramps during pregnancy. These are a sudden sharp pain, caused by an involuntary spasm.
A good way to relieve leg cramp is to flex your foot at the ankle and then circle vigorously, increasing the blood flow to the leg. Massaging the affected muscle and exercise can also help.
Where to give birth?
Giving birth in the UK is generally very safe wherever you choose to have your baby.
The decision depends on your wishes but it’s important that you and your partner have all the information you need to make your decision. Your midwife will discuss the options that are available in your area.
Anomaly scan
If you’ve received or are expecting to receive antenatal test results from your 20 week anomaly scan, it’s worth finding out what they mean, how accurate they are and what choices are available to you, even though there’s a good chance everything will be fine.
Checklist
Have you got your MATB1 form?
This is an important piece of paperwork that you'll need to work out your maternity leave arrangements.
